Yangon City Streets

Old British style arteries.

Pure fresh oriental blood run through them made of Toyota's, homemade cars and plenty remains of WW2 jeeps, trucks and buses, street markets are lining the roads.

Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon is the most famous in the country. Every day pilgrim come from everywhere in the country and other countries to pay respect  or are just curious what's up here and get a real surprise since this is huge, read more.

The streets in bright sun with strolling crowds and dense traffic are immense busy, just have a look for the pictures on this page and elsewhere in the website.
The river is controlled by the Port Authority which controls all vessel movements. This is the inland harbor and the more prominent are ocean going vessels moving in from the Andaman Sea, a part of the Indian Ocean.

The area is very busy and ocean-going ships from about 10 000 to 15 000 tons are anchored alongside the bank and in midstream. After conquering Burma during British colonial times until after WW2 Yangon / Rangoon was a stopover for British traffic from India to Penang and today Georgetown Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur and present day Singapore.

Very close to the waterfront runs the Strand Road with the famous “Strand Hotel”.

Because of the never ending truck movement it is also a continuous stinking which probably it not what someone expects who pay from $ 200,- upwards per night. The lodge itself looks great with stylish teak decoration and furniture to bring the idea of colonial times into the rooms.
