Sakyamanaung Pagoda

The stupa was constructed in 162X A.D

There was a King in Arakan with the name Thirithudhammaraza who reigned between 1622 and 1638 A.D. he ordered an unorthodox sacred structure of an octagon. After the ninth tier the spire was formed circular and up to the top.

On the second and third tier is a niche with a sitting Buddha sculpture with some ornamental designs. The circumference at the base is about 100 meters and the whole pagoda is made from stone which is different indeed since most were made from bricks.

The 40 meter high pagoda is in amazing good conditions. Around is a wall with two gigantic guardians in kneeling posture. The place fits very well between the hills and makes a pretty picture.
