Maha Bandoola Park

The park has several interesting buildings grouped around.

City Hall built in 1936 is on one side of Maha Bandoola Park it includes some typical Burmese style elements such as as a traditional tiered roof and other. The space in front is a popular come together at the water festival and political demonstrations are made sometimes there.

Several other landmarks are around such as the High Court, Main Post Office and the Sule Pagoda. This is a wide green place with the monument in the center.

This is in the very center of the town just across city hall and aside of Sule Pagoda. It is an important historical monument and reminds what happen after the British besieged Yangon.

Some history, Mahabandoola tried with a local army to throw out the colonialists.

British attack at the Rangoon stockades

He did not succeed because
the other simply had the better "firearms" his men only had swords and lances.

Although the local forces had some modern arms they bought from the Portuguese and French this were only light infantry weapons, they had no access to artillery or other heavy guns. That was the real reason why they got defeated. That was the real reason and in the end he and most of the soldiers got killed but always remained Myanmar heroes.

Today the garden around has one more use, every weekend plenty of young couples do some rubbing and kissing behind the sculptures no matter if it rains or the sun shines.

Yangon City with the the high court

It is also a wide breathing space in the hearth of the city since the river banks are just about 100 meters to the south.

The yellow trimmed Victorian Style building is the Supreme and High court building and shows old English style.

A bit further to the east is the old Secretariat and Ministers Offices at old Yangon

The old Ministers Office Compound

Actually there is no minister living there since long time but that's the name established since long time. This places have been left rotten for decades although this is heritage at it's best now there are some attempts for restoration, the only place where they started yet is the old railway station just opposite the renamed Sule Shangri-La Hotel

Since all this hotel giants make money with the city it would be a good idea to make a reasonable fond to finance restoration, this mostly Chinese companies also have some social responsibility but the social issue and Chinese Philosophy is definitely a contrary issue they only want to bunker the money, the government is requested to do something before all goes down the monsoon drain.

Many smaller ferries start from the Pansodan Terminal close by.

to cross the Yangon river which is quite wide. Don't try to use the ferries as a foreigner they wont take you since they are afraid if anything happen, considering the flimsy boats it's maybe a reasonable decision.
