Inle Lake is a enjoyable spot for visitors, it is located in the middle of the Shan State,30 kilometers from Taungyi, the capital. 875 meters above sea level, 22.4 kilometers long, Intha or lake dwellers live in wooden houses built on stilts in the calm, shallow waters, tending their floating vegetable gardens and do fishing.

The wide blue water body is relative shallow and has a unique feature, the floating gardens which are handmade from sediments of the bottom. They are compacted and packed with fast growing vegetable seedlings and the people handle them in a way to make sure to get three harvest per year out of it.
