Northern Mountains & River Sources

The peaks are great adventure destinations.

They have all what it needs for nature bound holidays. Not many foreigners have been here until now, only for a short time  during British colonial times it was the playground of some botanists from the island. If you love mountains, new destinations and think you have been everywhere and seen everything think twice and check it out.

Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon is the most famous in the country. Every day pilgrim come from everywhere in the country and other countries to pay respect  or are just curious what's up here and get a real surprise since this is huge, read more.

In Burma you are safe from mad Islamist, it’s not like in Kashmir. On the other hand the environment is very basic and definitely a hard trek including many small and bigger rivers, but many people like that.

Here are the sources of the Irrawaddy River >

At least for the first time visit it makes sense to do a guided trekking tour because they know the area and also have tents and a cook with. There are no houses and cabins around and the encounter with a wild bear or tiger might give some trouble when you are alone or just two.

Mt Hkakabo Razi in Kachin State

The crown is Mt. Hkakabo Razi South East Asia’s highest peak.

The mountain's height is 5,900 meters, it was conquered for the first time in 1997 by a mixed team of Japanese and local mountaineer. The only town up there is Putao > which has an airport to make it possible to visit the area in a reasonable timeframe. Otherwise it would be hundreds of kilometers by broken and dangerous roads.

Here is Putao trekking >

Putao trekking one of the most exotic destination in Asia

Steep valleys in northern Kachin State

The ranges have plenty of snow all year long including glaciers and a pristine environment, just pure mother nature. This would be the perfect skiing place but nothing happen yet maybe it’s better like that. But the problem comes from China, means poachers and illegal loggers who bribe their way through and carry the felled trees over the border.

They do a lot of destruction in Myanmar now since their government stopped them from illegal logging now they move elsewhere. They do the same in Laos, actually this Chinese are a real problem for the whole region because they don’t care about anything, they do just hit and run leaving a mess behind.

Where they cleared the valleys they so some cultivation, the grow rice, maize and plants, crops and vegetables. The area has a similar climate as the Alps in Europa which allows the same cultivation in a temperate environment but the yield is poor. Animals around are monkeys, pigs, deers and other it is not as in Thailand where they already killed every bigger animal to make some quick cash.
Great mounatain flora of the north

Also the flora is very similar to the Alps.

There are hemlock and fir mixed with larch, over about 2500 meter it’s pure conifer forests. Below are hardwoods such as oak, maple and birch plus other.

Going hunting in the mountain

People do deer hunting by gun and fishing with nets and harpoon. Cool weather changes to freezing winds in the winter and the mist hangs over the serene scene almost 6 months of the year. The tribes around are Rawan, Lisu, Kachin, Shan and Jingphaw.
