Yangon can present itself very stylish or rotten, often both.
The differences is with the buildings, here are several built during colonial times still under supervision of the English and other by locals from Rangoon. What the English built although rotten from decay still look somehow not so bad and has some charm, the second are just bad by any means. Those are the ones in the very city center where plenty of people from India live who came in with the British. It doesn't look much like SEA it rather appears like Calcutta.
There are some very pretty buildings left one of it is the old railway station.
Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon is the most famous in the country. Every day pilgrim come from everywhere in the country and other countries to pay respect or are just curious what's up here and get a real surprise since this is huge, read more.
Old Yangon Railway Station Front >
This side is right in front of the Shangri-La Sule Hotel.
Such pretty things like this vintage Mercedes are still seen which includes some ancient Jaguars and other British vehicles plus Toyota and other.
Ministers Office without them, means faded glory.
There are still a couple of pretty old buildings around, what do they all have in common? Still rotting strong.
The ministers office without them is at Anawrahta Road almost in the city center the condition of this once beautiful building is a shame. It is hidden behind a double barbed wire and entrance is blocked, actually there is nobody in so why block it?

This is a legacy of British colonial guys.
They destroyed the country and were running away when the Japanese appeared, after they came back with the US. Why don't show this "island dweller" a bit of willingness to honor their bad deed and renovate the complex. It would cost some money but within 10 years it's profitable. At least they could do something which makes some sense, it would only be a fraction of the Iraq war costs. But British never take responsibility they always hide behind the US.Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon is the most famous in the country.
